Missions
Louis and Bonnie Rushmore are missionaries serving the churches of Christ, several weeks at a time in India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar (Burma). Stateside, Louis and Bonnie travel extensively to apprise congregations of the mission work to which they have dedicated themselves and to speak on a variety of biblical subjects. The Rushmores help continue the decades old missionary labors of the late J.C. Choate, which includes the mass evangelism overseas of radio, television, Internet, literature distribution, Bible schools and campaigns. These thrusts, in cooperation with foreign brethren, typically result in 250,000 responses per year, to which overseas brethren respond with literature and when appropriate personal contact; 3,500 conversions annually abroad; and the establishment of hundreds of congregations of the Lord’s church.
A prominent part of the mission work is the quarterly publication of The Voice of Truth International magazine, which circulates in 80 countries, in several languages. Louis is an Associate Editor and together the Rushmores participate heavily in its production. In addition, brother Rushmore is the Editor of the Internet journal, Gospel Gazette Online, now in its 12th year and read around the world.
Like brother Choate has, the Rushmores have written or published several Bible study books for use stateside and abroad. Louis and Bonnie are helping to continue the printing and worldwide distribution of J.C. Choate publications, too. Hundreds of titles on which brethren have fed for decades remain available, even as new titles by a variety of authors continue to be added. Books are offered for sale to those who can afford them and provided free of charge to those who cannot afford them, at home and especially overseas; the willingness of brethren to purchase literature when they can helps make it available to Christians and non-Christians who cannot afford it. Thousands upon thousands of books and copies of The Voice of Truth International are sent worldwide through the Post Office, International Mail, containers or carried by missionaries with their luggage.
At the request of Burmese brethren, Louis, Bonnie and Rebecca Rushmore plus a couple of additional brethren are traveling to Myanmar in mid June for special classes for young people. Though the Lord’s church has had a presence in Myanmar for decades, it has only blossomed in the last 15 years or less, under dire circumstances no less. Reflective brethren in Myanmar have concluded that unless they provide quality Bible training for Burmese youth today, the Lord’s church in that country will be less able in the years ahead to select biblically qualified elders and deacons. This year’s special emphasis on the youth is the first effort in that regard.
“We respectfully request that you as an individual as well as the congregation of Lord’s church of which you are a member prayerfully consider participating with us financially. We’ll take the light if you will send the light. We covet your prayers as well.”
“Bonnie and I will return to Myanmar for the October and November fall session of the Bible school outside of Yangon, as we do each year. We will need your help for that trip and work, too.” ~ Louis Rushmore
