Evidences of the Existence of God: The Cosmological Argument
Vol. 15, No. 9 — Sep 2013

9In view of the fact that atheistic humanism, godless evolutionist and other forms of infidelity are having a field day, and the columns of nearly every periodical in the country are open to the false arguments of such infidels, it is important that all people, especially children, should be taught the truth about the existence of God. A recent issue of National Geographic magazine devoted a major part of that issue to declaring and depicting godless evolution as a fact. So it is with some cartoon books, and practically every biology book in every school in the land appeals to the minds of those from kindergarten up. Therefore, let parents be encouraged to study these simple lessons with their children, regardless of age, and have regular Bible study at home. By “cosmos” is meant the world and all the stars, planets and galaxies that appear in the heavens. “Cosmological” is an adjective that defines the type of science that deals with the universe. L.S. Keyser thus defines: “The Cosmological Argument is the argument that the cosmos is an effect produced by a Primal Cause, which, from the nature of the case, must be a Person. Sometimes it is called the argument for causality, or cause and effect” (A System of Natural Theism, 46). Further he says, “The principle is that every effect and event must have an adequate cause. The world is here; we cannot deny its existence… It is also an orderly world, a cosmos, not a chaos, therefore, it could
Is There A Supernatural God?

22For many years an organization called the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism was active in spreading its propaganda in efforts to destroy faith in the living God. More active today are the humanists who have set forth their atheistic doctrines in Manifestos I and II. The Bible rightly classifies such proponents of atheism: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). Abundant evidence that there is the God of heaven is available. Many years ago, a well-known novelist of this country, who was proud of his skepticism, in a speech before a large assembly in Kansas City challenged God to prove His existence. He said, “There is no God anywhere. If there is a God, I defy him. I will give Almighty God fifteen minutes to come down here and strike me dead, and if He doesn’t do it, I will have proved that God does not exist.” This lecturer laid his watch upon the podium, and when fifteen minutes had passed, while the audience waited in breathless silence, he picked up his time piece and said, “I have proved there is no God.” The audience applauded enthusiastically. National newspapers grabbed the story and a Niagara of ink flowed as the presses gave prominence to the affair. Sensational! Some of the older people who read this article may remember Mr. Arthur Brisbane who wrote a syndicated column for some fifty or more newspapers in the 1920’s and 1930’s, and was read by more

22The Cosmological Argument is the argument based upon the idea that every effect has an adequate cause. The existence of the world cannot be denied. Scientists have concluded that the material of which the earth and planets are made is not eternal. Therefore, it had to have a beginning. This argument is closely akin to the Teleological Argument. Simply, “Teleological” means purpose, design and adaption in the universe. These studies deal primarily with our solar system, particularly the earth. Evidence is abundant that the wonders we behold could not have come by chance or accident, but as purposed and planned by a designer. Mentality and intelligence are not composed of matter, and could not possibly have merely evolved. All of nature indicates intelligence; intelligence connotes personality, and personality indicates God. The following thoughts are adapted and paraphrased from the book Man Does Not Stand Alone by A. Cressy Morrison (Fleming H. Revel Co., 1954). That the universe was brought about by Divine Intelligence can be proved by mathematical law. Suppose one puts ten coins into a container, having numbered each coin from one to ten. Shake them up thoroughly, and then try to take them out in sequence, one to ten, that is, remove coin number one, then put it back into the container, then remove coin number two. Place it back in the can and so on until all have been removed in order. Mathematically the chances of drawing number one is one to ten. The possibility of removing numbers one and two in
God and the Honeybee

18In the study of every species of every kind in the world, from the one-celled amoeba to the most complex creature on earth – man, thousands of thousands, every part of every creature, whether an eye or leg, or other part, from the smallest to the greatest demonstrates design or purpose, which demands a designer, which demands intelligence, leads us always back to God. In this brief article let us consider: The Honeybee This insect has been called the “Masterpiece of Creation.” A colony or hive may number from 10,000 to 70,000 or more. Each hive has three types – the queen, drones (males) and underdeveloped females, which are the workers. The purpose of the queen is not to rule the hive, but to produce young bees. She is the only fully developed female bee in the hive. In her lifetime, she may lay as many as one million eggs. She may lay as many as 1,500 a day in summer to replace dead bees and enlarge the colony. The eggs hatch within three days. She lays unfertilized eggs in certain cells and fertilized eggs in others, the former to produce males and the latter females. After mating, the queen carries the male sperm in her body. If a female bee is desired, the queen presses the sac and fertilizes the egg to be deposited in a certain cell. If a male is desired she does not press the sac to fertilize the egg and deposits it in an entirely
Claims for Inspiration

18Before citing biblical claims to inspiration, it might be good to acquaint the reader with what is called “Higher Criticism” and “Lower Criticism.” The first may imply it is better, but not so. International Standard Bible Encyclopedia states: “Higher criticism… manifestly tends to widen out illimitably into regions where exact science cannot follow it, where often, the critic’s imagination is his only law.” Higher criticism is obviously not concerned with the accuracy of the biblical text and would contribute to destruction of faith in the Bible. Lower criticism, on the other hand, “…deals strictly with the text of Scripture, endeavouring to ascertain what the real text of each book was as it came from the hands of the author” (I.S.B.E. 749). “Higher criticism,” it seems, has been given impetus by infidel German theologians and philosophers. The term Higher Criticism was given by a German biblical critic, Eichorn, about the beginning of the nineteenth century. The reader can easily see that “Lower Criticism” is much more valuable than “Higher Criticism” in that this science seeks to give us the true text, whereas the former would destroy such. In view of the fact that even some among us, so-called Gospel preachers and professors of the Bible, have become so enamored with the false critics as to deny the verbal inspiration of the Bible, class parts as inaccurate, thereby affecting the faith of many and leading many into error, it is in order to continually warn and to uphold the inerrancy of proper translations of
The Absurdity of Atheism

14The agnostic is a type of infidel who says that he does not know that there is a God, as Christians believe, and honestly says, “I don’t know.” The atheist is the more arrogant when he says, “I know that God does not exist.” In so saying, he holds a most ridiculous position. In order to know that, he must know everything that can be known, for if there is one thing he does not know, God may be the very One he does not know. Thomas A. Edison, in his day, is credited with saying that in scientific fields man had not “touched the hem of the garment.” Tremendous advances in scientific knowledge since his day have proved him correct. Neither has man yet learned all there is to know. To know there is no God, the atheist must have been everywhere in the universe, else God may be in the one place he has not been. If there are limits to the universe, man has never been able to see such, much less travel to the end. Hence, before any man can deny the existence of God, he himself must be a god; he must declare that he has been everywhere and absolutely knows everything. Infidels deny that the idea of God ever entered the world through human reason, and that there is no such thing as divine revelation, and certainly not by experience, then how could the idea of God ever be conceived by man? If there is no
