Not Just A Baby In A BarnBy Basil OvertonAccording to the Bible, the first bed Jesus had was a manger, which was a feeding trough for livestock. This implies he was born in a barn. Dr. Luke wrote that the reason for this was "because there was no room for them in the inn." Think of it! The first bed for him through whom the Father created all things (Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16) and who came into this world from the Father (John 16:28) was a feed trough for livestock! Indeed, this holy being from heaven "make himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:7-8). What Is ObviousIf all had recognized the authority of Jesus Christ and ordered their conduct according to his will, the world would be so different we cannot imagine what it would be like. This colossal truth encourages me to continue to be diligent in the preaching, teaching and spreading of the Gospel of the Son of God. It is encouraging and gratifying to God fearing people to think about the millions of people who believe that Jesus came from the Father and who order their moral lives according to the standards of gospel of Jesus Christ. However, it is frightening to think about so many who say they believe Jesus came into this world, but do not act like they believe it! These and all those who do not believe Jesus came from God, and all those who have not heard about Jesus have brought the world into the chaos and corruption of sin and its consequences so evident all over the world. Our great nation, and all the nations of the world, perhaps as never before need to see and understand Jesus as much more than a sweet infant in a feed box in a stable!
Sin's Slavery And CorruptionThe godless philosophy of secular humanism has loosed into our land a massive system of sin's slavery and corruption. Many accept as amusing the awful offenses against God Almighty such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality and drunkenness. In the media there is much said about "safe sex" with hardly ever any mention of how sex out of holy wedlock is offensive to, and an awful sin against our Creator! There is an enormous and alarming number of out of wedlock teenage pregnancies. Pornography is a plague that fosters and encourages rape and social diseases. No sin is more explicitly and severely condemned in God's word than the sin of homosexuality. Yet, those who are guilty of this sin are bolder and bolder and more and more demanding. This sin could cause the downfall of our great country. It is one of the chief causes of the spread of the aids virus. I heard a physician say that fifteen hundred thousand human babies are aborted (killed) each year in the United States. Many of us believe this is terribly wrong and awfully offensive to Almighty God our Creator! In the media there seems to be more concern over the cruel treatment of, and deaths of cats and dogs than there is over all the human babies being aborted. Often there is more concern expressed in the news about endangered species of animals than there is about the murder of so many millions of unborn human babies. For this reason and many other reasons, there is no species more abused than the human species! Many express more concern over the loss of buzzards and buzzard eggs than they express over the millions of human abortions! Many have the wrong priorities!
[Brother Overton is right! Until people in general perceive of Jesus as more than a sweet little baby, He will not be the Lord of their lives. As long as Jesus is displaced as Savior, sin will continue to ravage society. Since Jesus Christ cannot be disallowed his role as Judge, every soul urgently needs to humbly submit to the divine will--recorded upon the pages of the Bible. ~ Louis Rushmore, Editor]
