Brett Rutherford Family Australia Mission Work: We recently received some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Joanne is pregnant. We are expecting our second child in June of next year. Please keep Joanne and the baby in your prayers. The bad news is that we continue to lose our regular monthly report. During the course of the last three months of this year, we will stand to lose a total of nine hundred dollars a month in support. If this continues, we will not be able to continue our commitment to the work here. Many of you have already responded to our need for additional support when we lost six hundred dollars a month in support earlier. We were able to make up about two hundred of the six hundred we lost. By tightening our belts, we were able to overcome this loss. Unfortunately, another congregation will be withdrawing three hundred dollars a month in support in December. Sadly, we found out a few days ago that we owe three thousand dollars in Australian tax. One of the dilemmas missionaries face is the necessity of paying taxes in two countries. If the congregation of which you are a member is interested in helping us in any way please let us know. For more information, contact Bret Rutherford.
Mark McWhorter Australia Mission Trip 2002: One of our daughters, Melissa, and I are planning to go to Tasmania, Australia in April 2002. We will be working in two evangelistic campaigns in two of the cities there. If possible, we plan to stay a third week for the annual lectureship in Hobart, Tasmania. We will be working with missionaries in Tasmania as well as a group of Christians organized by Rod Rutherford from Truth for the World. During the weeks we are there we will be door knocking, letter boxing (it is not illegal to put items in mail boxes there-and this has been found to be an effective way to advertise), having Bible studies during the day and services in the evenings. Melissa hopes to help teach some children's classes while there also. The theme for the two campaigns is "Dangerous Isms." I will be speaking on Ecumenism and Proper Unity. It is also possible that I will speak on Feminism. The Lectureship theme is the "One Church." My assigned topic is unknown at this time since I am not sure I can even stay for that week. It is a long trip to Tasmania and thus rather expensive. The church there is small and needs all the encouragement it can get. Thus, we believe the costs are warranted to help see that the true Gospel is taught there and to encourage the present Christians. We need to raise approximately $6000 for the two of us. This will be Melissa's first experience in overseas mission work and we really want her to go. She is quite excited about the opportunity. We ask that you give us consideration. We need to have most of the money by the middle of December to get our flight arrangements solidified. Funds may be sent to: The Elders, Shades Mtn church of Christ, 959 Alford Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama 35226. Mark checks for McWhorter mission trip to Tasmania. Glen Tattersall Family Australia Missionaries: Consider helping the Glen Tattersall family in some way. Glen preaches for a congregation of 14 in Tasmania Australia. He has lost a great deal of his support recently and is in the States trying to raise the support. He has a great desire to continue the work where he is. Even if you cannot help long-term, consider giving a one-time donation. Their finances are very limited and they have to spend money to travel and raise support. This family is truly sacrificing to do the work. You may contact Glen at: balfour@microtech.com.au.
