The Washed Sheep

By Mark McWhorter

Image It was custom for ancient Jews to choose out a few good sheep to feed specially and to take care of specially. These sheep would be fed the best. These sheep would also be taken to the clean water sources and washed regularly. All the dirt and filth would be carefully washed from the wool of the sheep. By keeping the sheep very clean, the sheep would not have as much chance of getting sick. So, the meat of the sheep would be very, very good.

In times of severe drought, the cleaning water for these sheep came from the special opened well. This made it even more special when it came time for the cleansing of the sheep.

Jesus is the special spiritual open well. Followers of Jesus, Christians, are the sheep. Jesus is our Shepherd.  Jesus not only leads us but he also cleanses us from all the dirt and filth of this world. We must follow him and obey him in order to receive that cleansing.Image

The Treasure Chest

By Mark McWhorter

Have you ever watched a movie about pirates? Have you ever read a book about pirates? In almost every book or movie about pirates, there is a treasure chest. This chest was a large box. It had a large lid that opened up on hinges. The pirates put money and jewels in the treasure chest. Then many times they would hide the chest. Sometimes it was put in a cave or buried in sand on a beach.

Many times when there was a treasure chest in a movie or book, someone was trying to find the lost treasure that was in the chest. Usually there is a map that shows where to find the treasure chest. Characters in the stories would go through many trials to find the very valuable treasure in the chest.

In Matthew 12:34-37, we find out that each person has a treasure chest. In verse 35, we read, "A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things." The word "treasure" is the Greek word for treasure chest or treasure box.

Notice that some individual's do not have valuable and wonderful treasure in their chest. Instead, they have evil in their chest. God does not want us to have a treasure chest full of evil. He wants us to have good treasure in our chest.

Do you have good treasure or evil treasure in your heart? The only way to have good treasure in your heart is to study God's Word. You must put the love, mercy, wisdom and justice of God in your heart. His word is the valuable treasure that you should be seeking and then hiding in your heart.

Study your Bible. Get the wisdom of God. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.Image
