In Isaiah 59:5-6, we read, "They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave spider's web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands."
The verses before these talk about how wicked the people were. They were involved in all kinds of evil things. God pictures these evil things as spider webs. The people are pictured as spinning these webs. You can see through spider webs. Spider webs do not really cover anything. The webbing is sticky and insects are caught in it. But the webbing does not keep you from seeing what is on the other side.
Spiritually the spider webbing is very poor clothing. God says that the righteous are clothed in righteousness. Sometimes the righteous garments are depicted as white clothing that covers the individual. The wicked are depicted in the Bible as being spiritually naked. The spider webbing catches and traps them in their own wickedness. But the webbing does not cover up their spiritual nakedness.
Do not weave spider webs. Keep yourself properly clothed. Study your Bible. Learn how to obey God. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
Have you ever heard the word 'cockatrice' before? It is difficult for a young person to say that word. A cockatrice is a poisonous snake. Not too many individuals like to be around poisonous snakes. Most people avoid and even run away from such snakes.
In Isaiah 59:5, we read, "They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave spider's web: he that eateth their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper." The verses before this one talk about the wickedness of the people. They are seen as very evil.
This verse says that their evil is like a poisonous snake's eggs. The people are taking care of these eggs attempting to bring them to maturity so that they will hatch into bigger things. The people are pictured as eating these eggs as they are hatching. The poisonous snakes bite the people as they are eating them. And of course, the people die,
God says the foolish, wicked people are no smarter than the person who would take care of poisonous snake eggs and then attempt to eat them. He says the people will die a spiritual death just like the person bitten by a poisonous snake would die a physical death.
Do not be like these foolish people. Study your Bible. Learn what is good and what is evil. Avoid doing evil and do the good. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
